As an avid outdoors enthusiast, I love easy to pack snacks that don’t spoil readily and are simultaneously nutritious and delicious! Naturally, there are tons of products on the market that fit the bill to a tee! Kind, Cliff, Blue Diamond, Kashi, etc. Actually, most food brands have some sort of product that they market to the “healthy,” “outdoor”, crowd. However, as I also try to keep environmental as well as economical concerns on my mind as I shop, I find that hardly any of the products offered fit the bill of environmentally friendly as well as affordable, quite so well.
All ready made products are heavily over packaged for instance, also, especially for cheaper products, it’s impossible to tell where their ingredients are sourced from. The higher quality products have better nutrition profiles, but, at quite the cost. The cheaper products are less nutritious and often rely on filler ingredients, sweeteners, and preservatives that are downright bad for you!
So, with this in mind, I decided to scour the internet for ideas on how to make my own trail snacks. The results did not disappoint!
The recipes to which the links are posted below, are all super easy to make, easy to adapt to personal taste, and, you can buy most of the ingredients in bulk!

Five Ingredient Homemade KIND Bars
This recipe is fantastic! Two notes:
1. IMPORTANT! Grease the parchment paper before pouring the mix into the pan, or remove the bars from the paper immediately after taking it out of the oven. If left to cool in the pan as the recipe suggests, the paper will harden onto the bars as it cools and you will be unable to remove all of it without leaving pieces stuck onto the bars that are impossible to get out!
2. I just made granola out of mine instead of shaping into bars!
Cashew- Date Energy Bars
These are amazing! No baking. Just blend and go!
Chewy Fruit and Nut Bars
The toasted nuts and cinnamon give these bars a very high flavor profile!
Coconut Cashew Almond Granola Bars
These are a bit stickier, but in a worthwhile way! I used almond extract instead of vanilla, and peanut butter instead of almond butter. Turned out great!
